Brunch in Marseille, around the Vieux-Port

Marseille's brunch map gathers around the Vieux-Port. The grand option is Les Fenêtres – InterContinental Marseille Hotel Dieu, where an oyster bar, carving stations and a dessert buffet are served on a terrace gazing over the harbour to Notre-Dame de la Garde, from €95 on Sundays.

The independents are a few streets away. Biba is adored for heart-shaped waffles, and its flower-filled sister Milva, near the Opéra, for a giant heart-shaped madeleine. Deïa Coffee & Kitchen serves pancakes and eggs Benedict all day, La Fiancée Vieux-Port, the city's first café to serve brunch seven days a week, offers house-made plates and a large shaded terrace, Maison Nosh has a sunny terrace on Place aux Huiles, Manzil offers msemen and mint tea in a cushioned Moroccan salon, and Zephyr Café is the relaxed, wallet-friendly choice. Off the Canebière, Cali Kitchen (€32) cooks organic brunch plates with Mexican touches. In the 6th arrondissement, Chez Diego near the Préfecture and the plant-filled Maison Bohème both have terraces.

Most cafés here open between 8:00 and 10:00 and close by 16:00 or 17:00, so brunch in Marseille is best started early. Maison Nosh is the exception, serving until 18:00 every day.
