Where to brunch in Lille

Lille's brunch scene is entirely independent, and much of it lives in Vieux-Lille. On Rue Basse, Elizabeth's serves a Sunday brunch of scones and cheesecake under vaulted cellars, and Sôma focuses on burrata and salmon tartines, with dishes from €15. Cœur Grenadine hides a peaceful courtyard behind its weekend brunch, and Latte Brunch, the Latte team's third address, sits just outside the old quarter. Facing the Treille cathedral, Paddo Café La Treille brings a sunny, Sydney-inspired all-day breakfast of ricotta pancakes, halloumi and egg rolls and avocado toasts.

Elsewhere, Banana Drama (€27) near République is a cheerful everyday option with cramique French toast, and Calico Café on Boulevard Carnot brunches around the world from breakfast burritos to shakshuka. Bloom Café, half coffee shop and half florist, saves its brunch (€25) for Sundays. Pae Pae, a New Zealand coffee shop at EuraTechnologies, is the budget pick at €18–22. Tu Brilles mixes American, Algerian and Egyptian influences in plates from €15–25, and Sweet Flamingo serves an Anglo-American weekend brunch in fixed seatings.

Many of these addresses keep generous hours. Banana Drama opens every day until 18:30, Paddo Café La Treille serves every day from 8:00 to 16:00, Pae Pae serves brunch daily from 7:30 on weekdays, and Calico Café runs an all-day brunch from 8:00 to 17:00. For a slower Sunday, the tea rooms of Vieux-Lille are hard to beat.
